I don't particularly struggle to get to sleep myself. My issue arrises when I wake up in the middle of the night. I either drift into light sleeps and wake up 3 or 4 times during a night. I can never seem to sleep all the way through the night. I think this is something everyone can relate to as it's more than likely happened to all of us at some stage in our lives. We all know how frustrating it is spending hours tossing and turning, being too hot then too cold, not being able to shut our brain off etc. Then you spend the next day exhausted and unmotivated.
Create the perfect environment
Your bed is your haven. Keep it appealing. Whether that means adding throw cushions, cosy blankets or simply just ensuring it is made every morning. Lighting is also a key element. I know for me personally, if I am struggling to sleep, I turn on my fair lights around my bed. The warmness of them is easy on the eyes and creates a cosy atmosphere whilst still being very dim.
Use sleep sprays or candles
The latest sleep spray I've been trying is the 'Help me, It's way past my bedtime' spray from helpmeorganics. The soothing notes of lavender and ginger really help calm me down and create that tranquil atmosphere. If sprays aren't your thing, there is also a matching candle available here.
Avoid technology/social media
That's right. Stay off your phone! I'm guilty of this for sure. By using your phone/laptop in bed you stop associating your bed with sleep. By watching Netflix or having a scroll through twitter you aren't letting your brain wind down and relax!
Get into a routine
A good routine is very important. Try to settle down at a reasonable hour. Also, finding what relaxes you and incorporating it into your evening will help you a lot. Maybe taking a bath before bed helps you, or reading a book, or listening to a relaxing playlist. It may even be something as simple as popping on your cosiest pj's. (To make them extra snuggly, stick them on a radiator before bed so they're warm and toasty!) Whatever the case, find what works and make it a habit to do so. My last tip would be to avoid caffeine before bed, instead, maybe a have a hot chocolate or a blend of tea specifically designed to help you sleep.
