At the end of February I finally got to stay in a hotel that I have wanted to visit for the longest time - Seaham Hall. Being fairly local to me, I've heard so many amazing reviews from friends and family so it's definitely been somewhere that I planned to visit one day. I've also spent various days at the award winning spa for midweek pampers or press events and have been nothing but impressed, so was keen to see if the hotel lived up to my expectations (spoiler alert, it did).
Location / The Hotel
Located just 13 miles outside of the city centre with views of the gorgeous Durham Heritage coastline, you'll find the incredible Seaham Hall. This luxury hotel is set on a cliff top surrounded by 37 acres of Georgian Estate, it's not hard to see why Seaham Hall is a popular destination for that relaxing getaway. Each room or suite is unique from the other with it's own individual decor with added luxuries such as designer toiletries, a mini bar, and some with their own fireplace and outdoor terrace. There's plenty of amenities at Seaham Hall with it's very own restaurants, bar, outdoor terraces and gardens, alongside the Serenity Spa which features an indoor pool, hot tubs, saunas/steam rooms and a fitness centre.
The Room
We were lucky enough to stay in one of Seaham Hall's fantastic Garden Suites which has everything you could possible need for that extra special weekend away. The Garden Suite not only had it's own private outdoor terrace/garden but also your very own hot tub and fire pit! At the end of the day we had a quick dip in the hot tub, before lighting the fire, getting cosy under some blankets and watching the sun go down. Fun fact - you can actually request some marshmallows and chocolate from reception for toasting!
But of course it wasn't just the outside of our room that blew us away, the inside was equally as beautiful. Equipped with a super king size bed, the Garden Suites are more than spacious enough. In the room you'll find a stunning fireplace, seating area, wardrobe and vanity, tv and free wifi, and a mini bar and coffee machine. There is also a generous sized bathroom with both a walk in shower and bath tub, as well as a range of Temple Spa toiletries and of course your very own bathrobe and matching slippers! I have to say though, my favourite feature of this room was the gorgeous big French doors which lead to your garden. Waking up in the morning to the sun peaking through these doors was a perfect way to start the day.
The Dining Room
During our stay we had the pleasure of eating at The Dining Room which is situated in the heart of the hotel. Their seasonal menus take inspiration from the freshest and locally sourced ingredients found in the North East coastline and countryside. Here we enjoyed a three course meal with starters ranging from Onion Soup to Parmesan Tart, whilst we both tucked into Beef Fillet and Fermented Roast Potatoes for our main which was cooked to perfection! Finally to end the night, I opted for the Lemon Meringue Ice Cream. The atmosphere in The Dining Room truly makes the experience luxury, the 14 carat gold chandeliers, Georgian windows and cosy booths are the perfect place to feast on some exquisite food whilst enjoying a bottle of wine and some good company.
Optional Extras
There's also various extras you can choose to book if you decide to stay at Seaham Hal such as Afternoon Tea and Outdoor Dining Experiences. After we checked in we headed to the outdoor terrace for the 'Two Peas in a Pod' experience. This includes private hire of the outdoor pods for two hours, a cheese or chocolate fondue, and a chilled bottle of Champagne. We got lucky and the weather was brilliant when we visited so sitting outside in the bright sun with an amazing view of the coast was fantastic. But don't worry, even if you want to book this for the colder months, each pod has is heated and your provided with your very own blankets and candles for a more cosy romantic vibe!
If you're lucking for a luxury getaway or staycation, I really couldn't recommend Seaham Hall any more. It totally blew us away and we are keen to visit again in the future, especially since it's just on our doorstep! And a big shoutout to the staff because everyone was absolutely fantastic and went out of their way to ensure we had the best stay.
