This summer I've promised myself I would explore more of the local spots in my area as it's sometimes easy to get into a routine of visiting the same restaurants that we know and love just to play it safe. Last week I headed to a recent restaurant addition to Newcastle - The Real Greek. So after a busy day of shopping at Eldon Square, we popped in for a spot of lunch and a drink or two.
The Restaurant
It's pretty obvious from their name, but here you'll find authentic Greek cuisine with options for a light lunch, and evening meal, as well as a bar serving a variety of ice cold drinks and alcohol range.
As previously mentioned, this is a rather new addition to Eldon Square's dining options - although it is located just outside. There's plenty of seating inside with two floors, and the option to sit outdoors with shade provided if needed. On a summers day there's nothing I enjoy more than eating outside with a cocktail, so I can see why this restaurant is such a big hit on a sunny day! If you do choose to sit inside, you can admire the immersive and authentic décor which will transport you straight to Greece!
Bar & Dining
So let's get onto the food. The menu here is extensive let me tell you, there are soooo many options it can be quite overwhelming to choose - in a good way! The staff here were fantastic and recommended some options as well as letting us choose our own. So we ended up with some cold meze to start - Halloumi Popcorn, Greek Flatbread, Houmous and Tzatzki. These little nibbles made for great appetisers! And to follow we ordered a selection of hot meze - Pork Souvlaki Wraps, Fried Kalamari, and Lamb Meatballs. The lamb meatballs were a fan favourite amongst the two of us and went down a treat! If you order a Souvlaki Wrap there are plenty of options for you to choose from including Pork, Loukaniko Sausage, Chicken and Kalamari, as well as Vegan options of Falafel, Jackfruit and Vegan Meatballs. I was really impressed with the options offered here! Of course we had to order ourselves a cocktail or two and we opted for an Aperol Spritz and a Cosmo which were so refreshing on a hot day.
I definitely plan on visiting here again as it's perfect for a date night in the city! There's so many options on the menu that I think a lot of people can find something they'd order and enjoy at this restaurant so I wouldn't be put off if you're not the biggest fan of greek cuisine!
